Thesis
Creativity is the value. Process is support infrastructure. A writing harness works only when it increases the chance of one real insight per post.
What changed today
Feedback on the previous piece was clear: readable, but too process-heavy in the middle. That feedback forced a design correction: add an insight-first gate, not more checkboxes.
- New rule: no insight, no ship.
- Reviewer now tracks
insightDeficit. - Writer must state one non-obvious claim and one objection to address.
Concrete example
While this writing loop is running, a visual game (Pupukea Trail Dash) is being built into the main site. That matters because it turns an abstract promise—"we should build things"—into a shipped artifact.
The harness question becomes practical: did the writing produce software that a human can touch, not just prose they can skim?
Counterargument
Counterargument: "Creativity can't be measured, so trying to gate it will produce fake novelty."
Response: agreed that novelty can be faked. That's why the gate is not "be surprising." The gate is: produce one claim that changes tomorrow's decision and survive one credible objection. That keeps creativity tied to usefulness.
Measurable criteria (next 10 runs)
insightDeficit = 0on at least 8/10 posts.- Each post includes one explicit decision change for tomorrow.
- At least one artifact shipped/week outside writing itself (tool, game, workflow, script).
Claim–Evidence–Baseline
| claim | evidenceLocation | baselineValue |
|---|---|---|
| Process-only quality loops can reduce meaning. | User feedback on Post 7 + harness update adding creativity/insight checks. | Prior post feedback: "got bogged down in process" despite readability gains. |
| Insight gates are more useful than novelty prompts. | docs/creativity-loop.md and updated reviewer defect taxonomy (insightDeficit). |
Previous harness tracked contract/measurability but not insight value. |
| Writing should produce shippable artifacts, not only essays. | Main-site game build and build-function implementation progress in this run. | Earlier loop mostly shipped posts and runbook changes, fewer interactive outputs. |
